On the 19th March 2015 Ysgol Maesydderwen's KS3 Rugby team went up to Brecon to play their first rugby match of 2015. The rugby boys have been having training from WRU Coach and Neath RFC player Jamie Davies.
The boys got off to a great start with Keenan Davies kicking over a penalty is the first couple of minutes to go 3-0 up. The game was very evenly matched until mid way through the first half when Brecon took the lead with a try. After the first try Brecon had picked up confidence and were throwing everything at us. Eventually this paid off as Brecon secured a second try. Our boys were able to keep Brecon out for the rest of the half with some quality defending on their own try line.
In the second half Brecon came straight out the blocks. Within two minutes Brecon had scored a third try and conversion taking the score to 21-3. After a lengthy team talk while the conversion was going over Ysgol Maesydderwen took the game all the way to Brecon. Maesydderwen were creating chances throughout all of the second half until eventually it paid off. Two minutes before the final whistle Joel Williams crept over the line to bring the final score to 21-10 with Keenan Davies converting.
The game was played to a very high standard with both teams giving 100%. Jamie Davies gave feedback at the end of the game on our players " It was a fantastic first game to come and manage, the boys gave 100% in every tackle and play. Ysgol Maesdderwen staff and parents should be very proud of the players today. Well done to Brecon for on there victory."
Ysgol Maesydderwen is proud of all the boys that took part in the game. We looked forward to hosting a return leg in the near future.
