Sweeps the Board!!

Lively debate was the order of the night at Ysgol Maesydderwen on Wednesday 1st October 2014. Topics included: 'Should animal testing be legalised for cosmetic reasons?', 'The idea of a quota for female ministers in Welsh government is ludicrous!' and 'Better off a life on benefits?' (Presented by Maesydderwen).

Kira Evans in Year 13 chaired the Maesydderwen team with Isabelle Truscott presenting a forceful case and Catrin Walsh offering the vote of thanks.
The mid evening quiz was hotly contested by our resident team consisting of Josh, Rhys, Daniel and Alec. At the end of the penultimate round the scores were:
Cwmtawe Community School 16
Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera 28
Ysgol Maesydderwen 26
However, after a valiant fight, our Maesydderwen team came a very close second place. The winning team was supported by our very own Kira Evans (due to Ystalyfera being one person short), who won the accolade for the top scorer!
The winners of the debating competition were as follows:
Best Chairperson - Kira Evans (Ysgol Maesydderwen)
Best Speaker - Isabelle Truscott  (Ysgol Maesydderwen)
Best Proposer - Catrin Walsh
Best Team - Maesydderwen

Llongyfarchiadau i bawb!
Many thanks to the Swansea Valley Rotary Club, the adjudication team and the 6th Form for providing the refreshments.
