Students Deliver Best Ever Results!
Year 11 students at Ysgol Maesydderwen are once again celebrating their outstanding GCSE, Welsh Baccalaureate and BTEC results which have built on the gains made in recent years. The excellent results include 98% of the Year 11 pupils achieving 5 or more A* - C grades, this is an increase of 9% on last year and is another resounding success for the school. The number of pupils achieving 5 or more A* - C grades including GCSE English and Maths continues to be a particular strength of the school with 63% of pupils achieving this important measure, an increase of 9% on last year.
There were some excellent individual successes including Helen Anthony (7 A* grades and 3 B grades), Joshua Davies (13 A* grades and 4 A grades), Nia McLennan (5 A* grades, 2 A grades and 1 B grade), Abigail Thomas (1 A* grade, 5 A grades and 2 B grades), Rhys Jones (2 A* grades, 5 A grades and 4 B grades) and Iestyn Jenkins (1 A* grade, 4 A grades, 5 B grades and 1 C grade).
Head Teacher, Mrs Speedy, said, “Once again we are delighted with the performance of our students. These excellent results help to cement our growing reputation and come at the end of a fantastic year which includes the recent Grease production which was a great success. They are results which any school would be proud of. We are also pleased that all our students achieved a qualification which shows that we are a truly inclusive school.”
Many pupils have decided to continue their studies in the sixth-form at Ysgol Maesydderwen, where they will be able to complete their A levels alongside the Welsh Baccalaureate and higher BTEC qualifications.
