A number of Year 9 pupils participated in a trip to Cyfarthfa Castle on Friday 13th March in Merthyr Tydfil in order to experience first hand the changes that were brought about in Merthyr as a consequence of the development of the iron industry.
All Year 9 pupils will be completing an extended writing assessment in the upcoming weeks on 'How and why Tydfil changed during the 18th and 19th centuries'.
During the day pupils were exposed to displays and artifacts from the time period, as well as a presentation and discussion led by a member of museum staff, to enhance their knowledge and understanding for this assessment.
Pupils also had the opportunity to explore an iron workers' cottage from the 1840s, previously occupied by famous Welsh musician and composer Joseph Parry.
