On the 14th October 2015, Ysgol Maesydderwen 5x60 hosted a "confidence building day" for the the Specialist Teaching Centre (STC) in the school and for pupils lacking confidence in the local primary schools.

Ysgol Maesydderwen 5x60 and Ysgol Maesydderwen's STC where invited to host the event by Nathan Jones, The Inclusive Futures officer from Swansea. Inclusive Futures is a leadership and volunteering initiative for young people, with a special emphasis on inclusion. The initiative gives young people with or without disabilities to work along side each other. It also gives young people who lack in confidence a chance to try and learn new skills that will help them grow in confidence. The event was the start of a pilot road show from Inclusive Futures who will be visiting schools around Swansea.

40-50 pupils from all the cluster schools attended the event which saw them take part in Wheelchair Basketball, Sit Down Volleyball and Boccia. All of these sports gave pupils a chance to be on the same playing field and be confident in their abilities as these sports are rarely done within the cluster schools.

We would like to thank Darren Carrew and David Smith for being guest speakers and sharing their experiences with the pupils, and would like to thank Sport Powys staff and Disability Sports Wales for helping with the event.

The event was a huge success and start of a great partnership between the schools, 5x60 and Inclusive Futures.
