‘Changing Landscapes’ was an Arts Council funded project which involved pupils of Mrs Davies Year 9 (set 2) History Class, Ysgol Maesydderwen, Ysgol Bro Tawe and Ysgol Golwg Y Cwm.
Their teachers were joined by two artists Eleanor Flaherty, a film maker and photographer, and Ami Marsden, an environmental artist, with the aim to enrich the learning experiences of the pupils.
The pupils investigated the theme of ‘Changing Landscapes’, how their community has changed over time and what changes there may be in the future.
The final sculpture pieces represent the community and industry of the area, with the coloured fabric representing the history and evolution of each site.
Over the course of the project, pupils complimented their History work with trips to Craig Y Nos and Swansea with the primary school pupils, taking part in creative learning exercises that challenged them and pushed their learning.
The whole project was documented through their own photographs and video clips, which have been turned into a documentary.
