Holiday Application Report a Learner Absence

from the Headteacher

On behalf of the Governors, staff and students I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Ysgol Maesydderwen.  On this website you will find plenty of useful information about our school; it will certainly give you an insight into the opportunities we provide in order for our young people to learn, develop and prosper.  Every day we do our best to ensure that every child becomes successful, curious and ambitious. Our aim is that every pupil at Ysgol Maesydderwen flourishes and is happy.

I am proud to be the Headteacher of a school which is at the heart of its local community.  Ysgol Maesydderwen has been serving Ystradgynlais and its surrounding areas for well over 100 years.  This rich heritage, combined with our outstanding 21st century learning environment, provides pupils with the best possible platform for success.  We aim to support pupils in achieving their potential across a range of academic and vocational subjects, focusing on the development of their literacy, numeracy and digital skills.  We want all our pupils to leave school with the ability to compete in the world of work or in further or higher education.

Our school mission statement is “Working Together, Achieving More” and this underpins all we do as a school community.  We have high expectations of all and we are committed to supporting every pupil to achieve their personal best.

A school website can only tell part of a school’s story.  Please follow us on social media or  better still arrange a visit.  Our doors are open and we welcome all.  I very much look forward to working with you and your children to ensure they become successful, happy and resourceful young people in the future.

Headteacher / Pennaeth
