Year 9

Welcome to the Year 9 Page!

During the Spring Term, our Year 9 learners will be making important choices about their future - this is called their 14 - 19 Learning Pathway. A range of traditional and vocational pathways are available in school and in partnership with other institutions such as Coleg Powys, Brecon.
Whichever pathway is chosen, we want to ensure our learners have the support and advice they need to make robust choices.

October 2011: Politics played an important role at Ysgol Maesydderwen recently, where pupils received a visit from Brecon and Radnorshire Assembly Member, Kirsty Williams.

As part of their PSE day, Year 9 pupils took part in a National Assembly for Wales workshop, where they learned about devolution and tried their own hand at a political budgeting exercise. Ms Williams’ arrival meant that expert help was at hand, and in the final presentations it was evident that pupils had taken her words on board.

“It was great to meet Year 9 pupils at Ysgol Maesydderwen recently, and hear their varied opinions on topics that the Assembly is currently debating,” said Kirsty Williams. “The groups were both lively and well-informed, and the sessions threw up some fresh opinions that I will be taking back to the Siambr. I hope that after the visit the National Assembly now seems more relevant and interesting for the pupils.”
