Year 7

  • Knowledge and understanding of the beliefs and practices of Judaism, Christian beliefs about Jesus and Islam.
  • Be able to explain, analyse, evaluate and empathise with beliefs and practices studied.

Year 8

  • Knowledge and understanding of Christian and Hindu beliefs about God, the importance of Easter celebrations and the celebration of rites of passage.
  • Be able to explain, analyse, evaluate and empathise with beliefs and practices studied.

Year 9

  • Knowledge and understanding of ultimate questions, moral, personal and spiritual dilemmas, and religious beliefs in response.
  • Be able to explain, analyse for meaning, evaluate, and empathise with religious responses studied, and offer reasoned, personal responses.

GCSE Religious Studies:

During the course pupils will develop knowledge and understanding of Christian and Hindu teachings and attitudes to contemporary issues, moral dilemmas and religious expression.
They will develop the skills to be able to describe, explain and evaluate, with reasoned personal responses, the teaching and attitudes studied. There is an opportunity for qualification through a combination of coursework and examination.

AS/A Level Religious Studies:

Through the study of three topics over 2 years, pupils critically analyse:

    • the beliefs, practices and developments of Buddhism from the time of the Buddha to today;
    • the role of religion in society today, its portrayal in the media, modern interpretations of religion and new religious movements
    • ethical thinking and its application to modern dilemmas such as euthanasia, abortion, and war and conflict.
