Year 7 theme was “Healthy Lifestyle” and pupils had sessions concentrating on promoting emotional as well as physical health and well-being. The sessions were delivered by MEND, 8th Sense Therapy, Youth Service, Miss Hill and our PE staff at school.
Year 8 theme was also “Healthy Lifestyle” with the exception of a session delivered by the Fire Service. The remaining sessions were delivered by Powys Catering, WRU, Ystradgynlais Sports Centre and our PE staff.
Year 9 had a “Citizenship/Careers” day which included sessions from Aberystwyth University on employability skills, decision making skills delivered by school staff, magistrates outlining their roles and responsibilities along with some interesting case studies and Animal Rights. The day included the first session on dementia as we work toward being a “Dementia friendly” school.
Year 10 focus was on Substances including alcohol; these were delivered by CAIS and PC Eckley who are regular visitors to school. Hafan Cymru raised pupil awareness of positive and negative relationships. The pupils also received the second of their APAUSE sessions which is the programme for sex and relationship education used in Maesydderwen and throughout Powys.
All the speakers attending were very complimentary about the school environment and the behaviour and attitude of the pupils.
