Friends of Maesydderwen

Our High Street Fashion Show was held at the Ystradgynlais Welfare Hall on October 13th.

Many thanks to everyone who supported or took part in the event.  Some photos from the night are currently on display on the news page of the school website.

Our Christmas Shopping trip now clashes with a Charity Concert being held at the Ystradgynlais Welfare Hall.  As there are other shopping trips being organised locally and it is difficult to rearrange coach hire at this time of year, we have decided to cancel this year's trip.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to any parents, guardians, grandparents, past parents, governors, former teachers, support staff and friends who would like to join The Friends of Ysgol Maesydderwen.

You can attend as many or as few meetings as you are able.

Please take this opportunity to find out first hand on a regular basis, what’s happening in your child’s school.

Minutes of the AGM of the Friends of Ysgol Maesydderwen – 8th September 2011

Officers were elected for 2011/2012 as follows:

Money raised by the Friends can be used to sponsor individuals or small groups of pupils from within the school to help them to meet their aspirational goals.  Sponsorship is extended to pupils of all abilities. 

Targets for the year ahead include raising funds to purchase equipment for the new school that will enable us to put on productions in the school.  The school needs to purchase a stage, lighting and sound equipment.  These could be used by the Friends for fundraising events in the future.

Fashion Show

We are holding a fashion show on Thursday, October 13th at the Ystradgynlais Welfare Hall.  Tickets are on sale at the school and will be available on the night.  Doors open at 6:30.

The companies involved are: New Look, Matalan and Samantha K of Pontarddulais. 

Local shops will also have items on display in the lesser hall that will be available for purchase.

All of the models are 6th form pupils, staff or members of the Friends.

Shopping Trip

We have arranged a shopping trip to Cabot Circus in Bristol on Saturday, 26th November. 

The cost will be £10 per person and there will be local pick-up points.

Last year’s trip was very successful; some of the ladies came back with lots of purchases while others just had a leisurely lunch with friends.

Ystrad’s Got Talent

This year, we organised Ystrad’s Got Talent.  Years 5 and 6 from the local primary schools participated along with pupils from Maesydderwen.  We will hold auditions for another talent show in the New Year.  Dates and venues will be confirmed soon, so watch this space!

Friends Appeal

The chairperson would like to make an appeal to parents, grandparents, family members, teaching and non-teaching staff and past pupils.  If you would like to join us, please feel free to come to one of our meetings.  If you can only make it to one or two of our meetings a year, we would still value your contribution.
