We have gained funding from Communities First to work with a sculptor to build a large sculpture for the front of our new building. The project will run over the next few months and will be led by Katy Gullam, head of Ysgol Maesydderwen's Art Department, and Ceramics Sculptor Rebecca Buck.
Rebecca has worked with a number of community groups to produce some amazing work in the past and we hope that with the help of our student, staff, parents and members of the community we will be able to create a sculpture that will show case our heritage as a community in Ystradgynlais and the vital role Maesydderwen School has within it.
Rebecca will begin work on the design with pupils on Thursday 19th January and would like to invite anyone who is interested in working on this large scale project to come and join us after school on a Wednesday in the Art department. If you'd like to find out more please contact Miss Gullam in the Art department by telephoning 01639 842115 or by sending an e-mail to katyg@maesydderwen.co.uk.
Here's a link to an article about Rebecca's work to give you an idea of some of the amazing things she's done in the past around south Wales.
